Betty Kong (Lead Instructor) | ERYT-500
Betty (ERYT 500) currently co-owns and manages Yoga Lab with Jasmine. She founded one of the first boutique yoga studio in Singapore seven years ago and since then she has been an significant contribution to the yoga community.
Betty is also one of the first few Baptiste Certified Teacher around the region. She is grateful to called Baron Baptiste her teacher and hopes to empower and inspire teachers and students just how Baron has been empowering and inspiring her. She started her teaching journey in 2007 in Vancouver Canada where she enjoyed most of her childhood. To Betty, yoga is a way of life. She believes that the practice on the yoga mat and yoga as a lifestyle, cannot be separated. Her teaching and yoga practice is also greatly inspired by other beautiful teachers like Patrick Creelman and Arun Rana. Betty also holds certificates in Hot, Yin, Prenatal/Postnatal, Vinyasa flow, and Kids Yoga.
Jasmine Chong (Instructor) | ERYT-200
Jasmine (ERYT-200) is the founder of Yoga Lab. The opening of Yoga Lab is Jasmine’s way
of spreading her deep love for the practice, and she is thrilled to provide a safe environment for practitioners of all levels and a space for all to share their passion for yoga. Yoga Lab merged with Updog Studio in December 2016 and Jasmine considers herself very blessed to have her mentor, Betty, running Yoga Lab with her.
For Jasmine, what started as a means to lose weight seven years ago quickly became a passion and a respite from a dissatisfactory lifestyle. She left her corporate job in 2014 to embark on an exciting journey to share her knowledge and experience in yoga with as many people as she can. She took her YTT under Arun Rana. Jasmine has over 2000 hours of teaching. As a teacher, Jasmine is nurturing and encouraging, and her classes focus strongly on form and alignment. She has designed the ‘Power’ classes at Yoga Lab to enable students and to empower teachers through well-thought out sequences.
Jasmine has had the privilege of training under skillful teachers such as Christina Sell, Sienna Sherman, Noah Maze, Patrick Beach, Dylan Werner and Meghan Currie. She is also a certified prenatal and yoga therapy instructor.
Jasmine’s journey has just began and she is committed to learning and sharing her knowledge with her students.
Marian Ang (Guest Instructor)
Marian: What drew me to practising yoga again in 2009 as a twenty something was the discovery of how much self-awareness the practice asked for. It spoke to something within me, a sense that I could master this aspect of life and learn to pass it on. Practice led to the quest for a teacher training certification and eventually embarking on the path as a yoga teacher.
Becoming a teacher helped me see things in a clearer light over time. I started to realize that while I was ready for a path of self-awareness with big plans to help everyone who crossed my path grow in the same way, the reality is that not everyone who steps onto a mat to practise might be searching for the same things, or are at a very different place in their lives at that moment, with unseen preoccupations and concerns. The lesson of letting go of the ego as a teacher is rather different than that of a practitioner. I might come into class with a lesson plan in mind, but often I’ve learnt to let go of any attachment to that plan if the students who step into class that day need an alternative plan. In time, everyone grows at their own pace and style, and I’ve learnt to develop more sensitivity and awareness of students, being present and supportive to propose and facilitate progress but not directing it to happen ahead of its time.
The other paradigm that teaching has shifted for me is that, I can’t please everyone all the time, and I rightly shouldn’t because then it would mean I wasn’t authentic or being my true self. My teaching style is grounded and calm with minimal intervention, the way I prefer to practise as well as I need time and space to work things out myself. If I tried to adopt another teacher’s style, I would have most certainly lost my own identity. I learnt (and am still learning!) to work around this by being comfortable to stay true to myself whilst experimenting with little ideas gleaned from other teachers. Most certainly as a modern-day female like many out there who wear multiple hats, I can sometimes be too hard on myself if I feel I haven’t been enough of a sister, friend, daughter, mother, (fill in the blanks). Being a yoga teacher has taught me up to this point, that it’s truly ok who and where I am.
Erica Tenggara (Guest Instructor)
Erica found yoga 6 years ago and throughout her journey has practiced Bikram, Ashtanga, Iyengar (Patrick Creelman), Vinyasa (Hee Boon & Noelle Connolly), Hatha (Arun Rana) & Yin yoga. On the side she compliments her practice with CrossFit and Hand balancing (Yuval Avalon). Her teaching style today, combines the best of these practices to create the classes she’s known for that combine simple progressive sequencing with detailed yet understandable instruction.
Within a long yet short time of 5 years Erica has been able to build a stable and successful career in her passion for yoga as a full time teacher with the addition of yoga video production (Yoga Lab TV), yoga photography, online classes (Omstars) and now Yoga Teacher Training.
Erica has seen the yoga industry in Singapore grow to what it is today and learned through many trials and tribulations as to what it takes to teach a truly great class. One not just filled with fancy poses but a class that can both stretch and strengthen the body without injury, yet empowering the students with compassion and confidence. All while retaining discipline and respect to the practice.
Erica hopes to share her through her experiences the tips and tricks she’s learned along the way to teaching a well programmed class with confidence, charisma and fun all around so that those who want to can truly share their passion for yoga too.

Betty and Jasmine devotes time and energy to their teacher training trainees and are inspired by them in turn. Here’s what some trainees recount for their YTT experience:
“Yoga lab’s YTT was physically and mentally challenging yet extremely rewarding.
It was a very good balance of asana practice and yoga philosophy.
It has helped me grow as a person both on and off the mat. In my personal yoga practice I have learnt to be more aware and mindful of my body and now practice much more safely. The intimate class size allowed me to form a close bond with my peers. The sense of community is extremely warm and grounding. Not signing up for YTT would have been a regret!”
“I was thoroughly impressed with deep knowledge of yoga and how it flowed thorough the classes. The classes have been always been enjoyable and provided a great opportunity for physical and mental development. Thank you Yoga Lab Team. :)”
“It was one of the best decisions to join Yogalab YTT. Betty and Jasmine are filled with passion and there was never a dull moment during their lessons. Great job guys and I would do it over again in a heartbeat!”
“Yoga Lab School provides a comprehensive curriculum, balancing both theory and the practical aspects of teaching. Betty and Jasmine are also great mentors, always ready to share their experience and knowledge with us. Signing up for this YTT is one of the best decisions I’ve made!!”
“I particularly chose to do my YTT with Yoga Lab because I noticed how much my personal practice grew just by attending classes there regularly. The YTT was no exception. I went in not knowing what to expect, but within a month, I came out so much more confident in my own practice. Because they empower you with so much knowledge – from alignment, to the history of yoga, the philosophy of yoga and body anatomy, you feel ready and eager to share this with others. The experience is really one of a kind. Whether you want to teach or not, Yoga Lab’s YTT is a great way to get a solid grasp of the fundamentals. Now when I go to classes, yoga is so much more than just a physical practice. It has helped me understand what yoga truly is and taught me how I can make it a part of my daily life.”
“Yoga Lab’s 200HR YTT program was incredibly fulfilling. Betty and Jasmine have put together a very complete program that builds a solid foundation for anyone interesting in deepening their practice or in teaching. The program leaves students with a lot of practical knowledge on how to sequence and teach a class as well as delving into the science and spirit behind yoga. Doing the YTT with Yoga Lab was an intensely fulfilling experience and one I would highly recommend!”
“One of the best thing I ever did for myself was going through the 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Betty and Jasmine from Yoga Lab. It was even more amazing that I was able to do it with one of my first teachers, Betty. I know I was in good hands with Betty.
Betty is one of the warmest person I know. As a teacher she is patient, and she cares so much for every single student, and wants each one of our experiences to be full, and powerful; and it was. She is precise, technical and exacting on one hand, yet warm, nurturing and compassionate on the other. Her teachings are empowering and genuine and together these abilities make her an incredible yoga teacher. My favourite moment of each YTT day was her reading of passages while we stay in stillness (very trying at times).
JASMINE has an alive, sparkling energy that fills every room she walks into. Her soul is one that knows how to have fun, and to seize every moment. She is always genuinely willing to help and look after her students and strives to provide such kindness even outside of class. She clearly loves yoga, and is a great teacher.
My journey through the 200‐hour program allowed me to grow, to be myself, and to feel so very supported in that. Both teachers begin from the start of teacher training and infuses in us the core philosophy behind yoga and then teach from example. From the starting point of explaining in small easily digestible segments the practical relevance of Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga they set in motion our own yogic journey. For me, the spiritual aspect turned out to be exactly what I needed.
The classes were planned in such a way that students were able to handle and really enjoy the training. They provide a non- judgmental and conducive environment that encourage growth, change, and healing. Both are amazing teachers! They nurture, motivate, and share their extensive yoga knowledge with a dose of humour which made the training a rewarding experience. I love my YTT for I feel in my heart that the two of them come from such an honest place.”
“In the 16 days of YTT, I journeyed with 11 other like-minded individuals from different walks of life, all bearing the same love of yoga as I did. Not only did we cover the fundamentals of asanas, we also journeyed deeper into ourselves to understand and fully develop ourselves as unique and authentic individuals, equipped to share our love of the practice in our own different ways. Through journaling, reflection and meditation, we sought to find the answers within ourselves to the different questions we all had in our heads. In a nutshell, going for YTT essentially equips you with all the necessary skills and know-how to share your love for yoga with those around you; the unique way in which you share it though, that you will find out by going for YTT!”
“When i signed up Yoga Lab’s YTT programme, I thought my greatest takeaway would be the deepening of my yoga practice. I never knew it would be so much more than that:- the self discovery, the discovery that yoga is so much more than the poses itself and how it forms a part of my everyday life, and not forgetting the friendship you forge with like-minded people! A highly recommended program for those want to deepen their practice and also equip themselves with the awareness to practice without injury. You may not have the intention to teach, but you walk away with the knowledge of teaching others and most importantly, yourself.
Writing this brings back all the feels of doing YTT with the both of you! Thank you both for the patience, love and guidance throughout the program!”
“I am so very proud to call myself a Yoga Lab YTT200 graduate.
Betty and Jasmine, co-founders of Yoga Lab have not only put themselves forward wholeheartedly, they have also put together a well-structured, informative, transformative, digestible, and life-changing 200-hour syllabus.
The daily meditation, sharing, learning and practice – though intense – is extremely rewarding. Get set to blow your mind by the amount of information and energy you will process and absorb, and look forward to the physical and spiritual changes that you will experience.
You will receive so much more than the “200-hours” you sign up for. The friendships you will make, the personal discoveries you will find, and the relationship you will form with the practice, are lifelong takeaways. Beyond the 200hours, Betty and Jasmine – who are, by the way, super complementary in terms of teaching styles, and amongst the best teachers I have ever had – will create opportunities that ensure their graduates keep learning and growing.
Once again – from the bottom of my root lock – THANK YOU Yoga Lab, for an amazing YTT200 experience.”
